Personally, I couldn't do without either programme. NX2 does not have the all-important "extraction" features - so for these additional tasks one must convert to TIFF for working in Photoshop.Īlso, the CS6 clone tool is far more advanced and one can completely repair or rebuild flaws, etc.whereas the NX2 repair brush is more suited to image (dust/specs/cracks) clean-up. NX2 does have "masking" features which I use a lot (on the more fiddly subjects).however, it does not create a true layer-mask.and cannot be utilized in the same manner. NX2 cannot replace CS6 no.but for any NEF shooter, I think it should be the go-to RAW converter.Īs previously mentioned.the "selection" U-Point Tools are great in NX2 for applying "selective" lighting, sharpening, luminosity balances, etc and are really so much easier/better than anything CS6 can offer in that regard.īUT, of course, Photoshop offers all the advanced functionality, layer-masks, cloning, gradients, and all the rest of it. Take a look at Gimp (free) or Paintshop Pro for example.
There are other options as well to Photoshop, which are free or cheaper and offer similar features for pre-press work (CMYK) I feel Photoshop does a better job in it. I use Nikon Capture a long time but since that I use it I keep using Photoshop (you do not need the latest greatest version) for sharpening. The layer structure in NX2 is not so user friendly as in Photoshop, but it's selection tool is very very powerful, especially when making local adjustments. Removing blemishes and other tihngs are well possible in NX2. Pure photographically speaking you can do a lot with NX2.
I already use NikonView and not Lightroom and I use Camera Control Pro 2, they're not the most user-friendly software, but they get the job done. Given the new pricing structure, can I move to Capture NX to stamp out dust and wrinkles on the products I shoot, clone out pimples, make adjustment layers, remove plexiglass reflections, work in CMYK, etc.?
